Leonard E. Zemp, 96, of Conway, Arkansas passed peacefully October 6, 2022 in his home. He was born June 5, 1926 in Morrison, Oklahoma to Elmer and Marie (Hassenfratz) Zemp.

Leonard was preceded in death by his son, Gary L. Zemp; his parents; three brothers and his granddaughter, April Bacher.

Leonard loved collecting antique clocks, fishing, country and western dance, volunteer work, traveling and his family. He and his wife had traveled often and to 29 different countries. Switzerland was his favorite because it was his ancestral home, where he traced and met 75 of his distant cousins. He became close friends with each of them through their visits to his and their homes and he considered this a great privilege.

In his early life he attended grade school in the Morrison and Perry area. Later on he attended Junior High and graduated Senior High in 1944 from Pawnee, where he played football. Shortly after graduating, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in January of 1945 during World War II. His tour of duty included services in the Philippines as well as the island of Guam and Leyte. After the war he served in the Engineers in Korea until his honorable discharge in October of 1946.

On November 3, 1946 Leonard married Juanita (Nita) Johnson in Quitman, Arkansas, making their first home in Pawnee. Later they moved to Ponca City on February 6, 1947, living there until moving to Conway. Mr. Zemp retired from Conoco Oil Company after 36 years on February 7, 1983, 35 and half years in which he worked on "The Hill" South Refinery. At the time of his retirement he was Supervisor of the #F5CC South Refinery. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church where he served in many different capacities, as well as a member of V.F.W, The Masonic Lodge and R.S.V.P.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Nita; one brother, Bill Zemp; one grandson, Jeff Zemp; two great grandchildren, Jake and Treavor Zemp along with many nieces and nephews.
