Nancy Lucille Fleming Sloan

Memorial services were held at Lakeside United Methodist Church in Lake Village, Ark., for Nancy Fleming Sloan, December 19 followed by a reception in celebration of her life. Mrs. Sloan went to be with our Lord on December 16.

Mrs. Sloan spent her childhood in Jackson and Greenville, graduating from Greenville High in 1963. In 1967, she was graduated from LSU, where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority.

She devoted her life to her family, her friends and her community. She was a very active member of Lakeside United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, served on various boards and committees, and was a member of the Village Bible Study. Among her many community activities, she was a member of the Century Club, the Lelundi Club and on the board of Guachoya Arts Center.

Whether it was cooking, sewing, knitting, decorating or planning parties and weddings, she loved creating and doing things for other people. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends in bridge clubs, supper clubs, pottery groups, the First Wives’ Club and other groups. Throughout her life, she shared the gifts of laughter and storytelling with whomever she met. However, her most important roles were as a devoted wife, loving mother and the very best Mimi in the whole world.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 42 years, Neill Moore Sloan; daughters Caroline (Chuck) Mischke of Lake Village, Mary Martha (Jason) Henry of Little Rock, and Nancy (Tyler) Walton of Sea Grove Beach, Fla.; grandchildren Jay and Neill Henry and Sloan and Amelia Mischke; brother Vic (Susan) Fleming and brother-in-law John Sloan of Little Rock; two nieces; three nephews; an aunt; an uncle; 15 first cousins; and countless other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Sloan was preceded in death by her parents, Norfleet and Elijah Fleming Jr.

Memorials may be made to Lakeside United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 192, Lake Village, Ark., 71653; Methodist Children’s Home, 1600 Aldersgate Rd., Little Rock, Ark., 72205; or Guachoya Art Center P.O. Box 732, Lake Village, Ark., 71653.
