Ethel "Coleen" Bishop McCourt 81, of Searcy, AR, died at home following a lengthy illness. She was born in Omaha, NE Dec. 4th, 1923 to Royce "Roy" and Wilda Bishop. She moved to Los Angeles, CA with her parents at 12 years old. After high school she went to work for North American Aviation, where she met her future husband, Cecil McCourt. After moving to Tulsa, OK, Coleen graduated from The University of Tulsa with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. She then worked for 8 years with Child Protective Services in Tulsa as a Social Worker. She was instrumental in helping to start the Child Abuse Registry. Coleen received her Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Arkansas/Little Rock thereby allowing her to further her career as Regional Supervisor for Child Protective Services for several Arkansas counties. In her retirement years she became a Master Gardener with White County Master Gardeners. Coleen is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Cecil Eugene McCourt; two sisters, Evelyn Lester and Patricia Liston; and one brother, John Churchwell. She is survived by one brother, Edward (Linda) Bishop; 6 children, Catherine "Cathy" (John) Inman of Lakewood, CA, Dennis (Beverly) McCourt of Fountain Valley, CA, Daniel (Anna) McCourt of Olympia, WA, Carol McCourt of Cordova, TN, Eileen (Greg) Thomas of Fayetteville, AR, Donald (Carol) McCourt of Tulsa,OK, 16 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Bonnie Berg, and her beloved pet, Nick. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to White County Extension Office, White County Master Gardeners, 411 N. Spruce, Searcy, AR 72143 or The Laura Dester Children's Shelter, 619 S. Quincy, Tulsa, OK 74120. Visitation will be Thursday evening starting at 7:00 pm with a Rosary service beginning at 7:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be Friday at 12:00 noon at St. James Catholic Church with interment to follow at Henderson Cemetery.
