Thelma Whitson Smith, 86, of Van Buren died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002. She was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church. She held offices in the women circles where she received a �Life-Time� pin. She was a member of the choir. She also organized all the kitchen duties for the dinners at church, Lions Club and the Rotary Club. She was in charge of fair booths and quilting bees. Her hobbies were canning, cooking and doing arts and crafts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Uriah Smith.
Survivors include a sister, Mae Moran of Mena; two sons, Clarence Uriah Smith Sr. and Dennis Troy Smith of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Velma Mae Campbell of Largo, Fla., and Ulene Fay Dyer of Van Buren; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 7 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage United Methodist Church Youth Department.
