On Monday, June 24, 2002, Evelyn R. Saffeels departed this life at 77 years of age.
Born on June 15, 1925, Evelyn was the daughter of Harry and Edna McIntosh of Clay County, Mo.

On Feb. 2, 1947, Evelyn and Forest were married in Liberty, Mo. They were married for 44 years.
Evelyn and Forest moved to Van Buren in the late 1960s. The purchased a farm in Figure Five where they resided for many years. Evelyn was employed as a mortgage loan officer at Peoples Bank, Citizens Bank and later at Robinson Real Estate. Evelyn and Forest were members of St. John’s United Methodist Church and later were instrumental in the merger and building of Heritage United Methodist Church. Evelyn served on many committees of the church as well as helping to develop Heritage Happy Days Day Care Center.

Evelyn is survived by her closest relative a granddaughter, Pattie Smith of Van Buren, her husband David and great-grandson, Joshua Smith. She is also survived by a grandson, Harold Meyer of Murietta, Calif., three other granddaughters of Abilene, Texas, a daughter of Abilene, Texas and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Benton Cone, Ricky Dickens, Mark Chitwood, Glen Briley, Darrell Shook, Roy Rogers and Danny Rapier.
