Alvin V. Pinkerton, 92 of Fort Smith, died Tuedsay, July 7, 2009 in a local hospital.
He was born February 18, 1917, the fourth of 10 children. His parents were Tom and Anna Steinke Pinkerton.

He served in the Army during World War II, in the Philippines and Japan. He spent his life working as a farmer. At one time he grew for Birdseye. He was well known for this wonderful watermelons, cantaloupes, tomatoes and green beans. He was an avid outdoors man and loved to hunt and fish. Mos of all he loved his family. He was a member of New Hope Methodist Church but had attended Grand Avenue Baptist Church when he moved to Fort Smith and remarried.

He taught Sunday school classes and was a song leader for many years at New Hope before he lost his first wife and moved to Fort Smith. They joined the gospel singing group "The Ridge Runners", which traveled all around singing gospel songs.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Dorothy Brederick and Jean Amos; his parents, Tom Pinkerton and Anna Steinke; a son, Steve Pinkerton; sisters, Martha Plummer of Van Buren, Viola Pinkerton of Fort Smith and Emma Lenoir of Carriere, Miss.; and brothers, Richard Pinkerton of Van Buren and Julius Pinkerton of Wichita, Kansas.

He was survived by a daughter, Sherry Cale; eight grandchildren; a sister, Annella Brewton of Cedarville; and two brothers, Tom Pinkterton of Cedarville and James Pinkerton of Windson, Colorado.

Funeral services were held at Lewis Funeral Chapel with Burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
