Maggie Marcelle Hawkins was born on Feb. 9, 1927 in Thornburg, Arkansas, Perry County (Williams Jct., Maumelle Township). Her parents were Jim & Bessie (Williams) Hawkins. She had 3 sisters; Vollie, Allie & Jeannie; & 5 brothers; Clarence, Clif, Rollie, Clady & Jimmy.
She attended neighborhood schools during elementary, then Perryville Jr. High until the 9th grade.

Marcelle worked at the CCC (Conservation Corps) camp in Thornburg as a teenager providing services such as laundry cooking and cleaning. Later as an adult, she worked in various manufacturing plants (Timex), alterations and then later in life she worked for herself as a housekeeper for wealthy clients in Little Rock.

Marcelle grew up with her husband Alton Montgomery in Williams Junction area. Her family attended Harmony Baptist Church while she was growing up. Later, many members of her family began attending Assembly of God Churches. And sone of them helped pioneer the Maumelle Valley Christian center church which was started by her nephew Jerry Wise in WJ. And she attended there also in the 1990’s. Around 2000 she switched back to the harmony church with her husband.

Marcelle was a very godly woman and intercessor. She served the Lord with her whole heart and devotion. This was instilled in her three daughters Judy Jeannie and Gina and into all of her grandchildren. She volunteered as a youth teacher, bookkeeper and sang in the choir, and attended church and studied and prayer meetings faithfully. Later in life, many of her former students came back and told her how grateful they were for her having minister to them as a young person.

Marcelle had a kind and tender heart. She was very lady-like, a simple country girl, yet very beautiful, gentle, patient. She love to read her Bible and pray. And watch Christian television. She was a woman of great faith. She also loved to cook, decorate and keep I’ll keep her house clean and creative. She loved arts and crafts, sewing and working in the yard gardening and things of that nature. ‘’Celle’ was what a lot of her friends and family called her. She was a trusted friend, a wonderful wife, mother & grandmother.

Marcelle married her husband, Alton T. Montgomery on May 24, 1946. They eloped in Perry County, married by their pastor at his home. They were married for 64 years until her husband Alton passed away in 2011. Marcel lived another seven years after her husband passed away. She dealt with dementia for the last seven years of her life. She passed away while at home on Montgomery Lane, Williams Jct., AR, on Jan. 18, in 2017. She was almost 90 years old.
