Vern Eugene Mahaffey passed away Sunday July 18, 2021 after a lengthy illness in Prairie Grove, Arkansas.
Vern was born February 6, 1930 in Newkirk, Okahoma to Embert M and Mary Helen Ellis Mahaffey.
He is proceeded in death by his wife of 59 years Imodene Louise Lawhon Mahaffey, and infant daughter Nancy Ann Mahaffey, his parents and two sisters, Elizabeth Spence and Laura Scott.
Vern is survived by son Edward E. Mahaffey (Pam) and daughter Pam Eley, 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will hold a memorial service, Tuesday August 3, 2021 at 10:30 am at the Fayetteville National Cemetery.
Family request no flowers and memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

PRAIRIE GROVE — Imodene Louise Mahaffey of Prairie Grove, Ark., died Dec. 3, 2011, at her home. Born Aug. 3. 1930, in Sage, Ark., the daughter of C.R. and Mellie Williams Lawhon.
While her children were growing up she helped with the Rainbow Girls organization, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Imodene was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, a past member of the Lincoln Kiwanis Club, the Lincoln Riding Club and the Prairie Grove Senior Center, where she assisted with delivering Meals on Wheels. Imodene was active in the Apple Jack, Rock City Sam's and Northwest Arkansas Sam's camping organizations. She was always ready for a good card game and the friendship that it brought. Imodene loved to listen to gospel music and was a member of the Jubilee Baptist Church in Westville, Okla.
Imodene was preceded in death by her parents, C.R. and Mellie Lawhon; two brothers, Elvie Lawhon and Warren Lawhon; two sisters, Velma Lawhon Troxler and Laverne Lawhon Sipe; and one daughter, Nancy Ann Mahaffey.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years. Vern Mahaffey; one son, Edward Eugene Mahaffey and wife, Pam; and one daughter, Pamela Kay Mahaffey Eley and husband, Jerry. She had five grandchildren, Ruth Louise Eley Isaac and husband, Nathan, Jerry Ray Eley II and wife, Kristan, Christopher Ray LeCompte, Elizabeth Renee Mahaffey and Lillian Marie Eler; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor Lynn and Michelle Louise Isaac, Michael John Eley and Leighton Marie LeCompte.
The family would like to express their heart-felt gratitude to the staff of Circle of Life Hospice for their love, support and encouragement to Imodene and her family.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Jubilee Baptist Church in Westville. Okla, at 1 p.m. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home of Prairie Grove.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Jubilee Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 686, Westville, OK 74965; or the Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72762.
