Matilda
1889 - 1941

*When Adolph Rudolph LANZ was born on October 13, 1879, in Joelton, Tennessee, his father, Jacob, was 39 and his mother, Hermina, was 20. Adolph fought in the Spanish American war. He enlisted in 1900 at the age of 21 and deployed to the Phillipines. When he decided the Army life was not for him, he saved 3 months of his military pay and purchased his way out of the Army. That was the last war that the military allowed a person to purchase their way out of. He was 5' 8" tall, had brown hair, blue eyes, and a fair complexion. He married Matilda Korren JENSEN on October 13, 1909, in Nashville, Tennessee. They had ten children in 13 years. He died on September 7, 1965, in Washington, District of Columbia, at the age of 85, and was buried in Searcy, Arkansas with his wife, Matilda.

Matilda Korren JENSEN was born on December 18, 1889, in Breckenridge, Colorado. It is believed by some family members that they lived in Leadville, CO when she and her twin sister were born. However, her mother and her twin sister did not survive the birth.

MATHILDA married Adolph LANZ on October 13, 1909, in Nashville, Tennessee. They had seven children in 14 years. She died on July 8, 1941, in Kensett, Arkansas, at the age of 51, and was buried in Searcy, Arkansas. She developed bacterial endocarditis, an infection of the lining of her heart. Penicillin would have saved her, but it wasn't invented and released until the following year. Her son Elwin, who was 16 when she died, said that two weeks before her death she was very healthy and walking two miles to the nearest grocery store with no difficulty. Elwin later attended Loma Linda University's Medical School in Loma Linda, CA and practiced medicine as a general practioner in Wytheville, VA before going to Ascuncion', Paraguay and Iquitos, Peru as a missionary Doctor. He returned to the United States in 1965 with his wife, Adina Johnson Lanz, and 5 children. He specialized in ophthalmology at White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles, CA and when he completed his training started a practice in Madison and Hendersonville, TN where he practiced medicine for many years.
