*Obituary
Sgt. John R. Massey of Judsonia, Arkansas was home just a month earlier on two week leave. He was there for his son's birthday and surprised him with a go-cart for a present. His wife's fondest memory is the day they all celebrated John graduating from basic training when they walked the Searcy trail. Though it was a simple walk with John, his wife and the children in a nearby park the memory of them altogether would become something the family would cherish. The journey took them most of the day. John was the son of Hershal and Deborah Massey and was of the Baptist faith. Over the Christmas holiday, John re-dedicated his life to the Lord at a local church. He died in Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations in in Baghdad, Iraq at age 29.
