May 23, 2021

Genevieve Haley, a long-time resident of Louisville, KY passed away Sunday, May 23rd, 2021.

Genevieve was born in Indian Head, MD to the late W.H. Haley and Hazel (Willett) Haley. Genevieve was the youngest of their four (4) children. Siblings Olga, Ray, and Emma preceded her in death.

As an infant, Genevieve moved to Black Rock, AR when her father, a WWI marine, retired from the military and took over running the family farm and the Denton Cattle Ranch from his father J.B. Haley.

Genevieve attended Black Rock High School, played the piano, was a cheerleader and dreamed of being a flight attendant. After high school, she completed flight attendant school in Memphis, TN.

After marrying James W Richardson, an opportunity with American Airlines led the family to relocate to Louisville, KY.

Genevieve modeled for a brief time, even doing a photo shoot in Mexico.

Genevieve had a heart and passion for children. While living in Little Rock, Genevieve was a foster parent for several years. This eventually led her to receiving her emergency teaching certification. She went on to teach elementary students in the Jefferson County Public Schools (Louisville, KY) for 27 years. She hosted many school functions, was active in the PTA and spearheaded getting cold water fountains in the Louisville public schools.

Genevieve did a great deal of volunteer work including the St. James Art in the Square, Shakespeare in the Park, and The Women’s Club. Even though she lived in Kentucky, her heart remained true to her home town of Black Rock, AR. She was very active in the Black Rock, AR Historical Society and the Lawrence County Historical Society. Genevieve supported the Black Rock Library and the “Pancake Breakfast”; attending functions as often as possible.

After retiring from teaching, Genevieve’s passion was Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She held multiple offices in her local DAR Chapter, Fincastle. She hosted many DAR social functions, including The Constitution Luncheon. Genevieve once hosted a tea for the wives of Vietnam helicopter pilots; receiving national recognition on this from DAR, headquartered in Washington D.C. Genevieve leaves behind many great friends she made through DAR.

Genevieve is survived by her son James Todd Richardson (wife, Cindy) of Keller, Texas; granddaughters Shera Evans, Megan Richardson, and Melissa Cinecio; and great-granddaughters Hailey, Addyson, and Anastasia.

Visitation for Genevieve will be Saturday, May 29, 2021 from 10 am – 12 p.m. in Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Walnut Ridge.
