When William Doddridge Jones was born on May 18, 1864, in Tennessee, his father, James, was 28 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 24. He married Sallie Cross Prather in 1887 in his hometown. They had four children during their marriage. He died on October 7, 1936, in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 72.
