Cleades "Shorty" A. Smith Sr, 85 of Mountain View (formerly of Powhatan) passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro.

He was born April 25, 1931 to Evan and Laura Smith in Powhatan. He married Barbara Turley on March 31, 1953.

He was a river boat captain, served in the United States Army, and was a medical corpsman. He was a member of the Eastside Church of Christ in Mountain View.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dempsey "Red" Smith, Tommy Gene Smith, and Frank Smith; sister, Joan Drury.

He is survived by his sons; Cleatus Smith (Mary Ann) of Powhatan, Vickie Adams (Randy) of Harrah, Oklahoma, Eric Smith (Linda) of Powhatan, Tony Smith (Janette) of Powhatan; a brother, Jerry and Jean Smith of Piedmont, South Carolina; sisters, Pat Smith of Imboden, Mary and Bill Maxwell of Black Rock, Bonnie and Junior Richey of Powhatan, Jeraldine Davis of Imboden, and Lois Colbert of Imboden; grandchildren, Jonathan Smith (Shannon), Zachary Smith, Anthony Adams (Tara), Alisha Cheatham (Dustin), and Michael Smith; great grandchildren, Dalton, Colton, Dristin Smith; Justyn, Abigail, Kenzy Adams; and Hayden Cheatham.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m at Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home with Cindy Bragg officiating. Burial will follow at Powhatan Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Barbara Lee Turley Smith, 85, of Powhatan passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at her residence after a long illness. She was born February 6, 1934 to Albert and Willie Turley in Alicia. She married Cleades “Shorty” Smith on March 31, 1953. Barbara was a homemaker and was a member of the church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth Turley; and her husband of 63 years, Cleades “Shorty” Smith.

She is survived by her sons, Cleatus Smith (Mary Ann), Tony Smith (Janette) Eric Smith (Linda), all of Powhatan; daughter, Vickie Adams (Randy) of Harrah, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jonathan Smith (Shannon), Zachary Smith (Jenny), Anthony Adams (Tara), Alisha Cheatham (Dustin) and Michael Smith (Tara); and great-grandchildren, Dalton, Colton, and Dristin Smith, Zach Smith, Justyn, Abigail and Kenzy Adams, and Hayden Cheatham.

Visitation will be Friday, September 27, 2019 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Walnut Ridge. The funeral will be Saturday, September 28, 2019, 10 a.m. at Cox Funeral Home Chapel. Cindy Bragg will officiate. Interment will follow in Powhatan Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge.
