Conroy
January 28, 1922 - December 9, 2011

Conroy Post, 89, joined his wife Ramona Copeland Post and their Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, Dec. 9, 2011. He passed away at the John R. Williamson Hospice House. He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and member of Canaan Baptist Church for the past 10 years and a former member of Immanuel Baptist Church for the preceding 54 years. Papa was born on Jan. 28, 1922, in Spearsville, LA, to John Frank Post and Eddie Emma Webb Post. He was the fifth of 11 children. At the age of 14, he dropped out of school to help his father farm and support his family during the Depression. A few years later, he joined the U.S. Army. He completed his infantry training at Fort Ord, CA, and served three years as an anti-aircraft gunner at the Panama Canal. Shortly after the end of World War II, he married Helen Ramona Copleland from Bernice, LA, on March 31, 1946. Before her death on Sept. 13, 2001, they were married for 54 years. Papa grew up hunting and fishing. He and his son, Larry, spent many a day quail hunting down near his boyhood home of Spearsville. Later, his son introduced him to golf at the tender age of 47. He played right handed for 3 years and then switched to playing left-handed. He enjoyed playing with his son in Father & Son tournaments, playing with his brother, Wayne, in scramble tournaments, and playing with his regular group of "Bucket-Ballers." Dad was especially proud to have been able to shoot his age or better many times from the "white" tees, which is every golfer's dream, and quite an accomplishment. He had a reputation for being able to "get it up and down out of the ball washer." He lost a thumb many years ago in a water skiing accident, but his other thumb was truly "green". A yearly tradition was his vegetable garden in his back yard, and he enjoyed keeping his neighbors on Crestwood supplied with fresh produce. He avidly supported the Razorbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals. While a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, he coached the church's little league baseball teams and on several occasions, rewarded their season efforts with a trip to St. Louis to see the Cardinals. Papa served as a great example of a life well lived, well loved, and well respected. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Henley Post; brothers, Wayne, Coleman, Robert and Gerald, and sister, Verna Williams. He is survived by his son, Larry Post (Mary) of El Dorado; grandson, Stephen Post (Sarah) of Bloomington, Minn., and great-grandchildren, Abigail Ramona and Jack; grandson Xon Copeland Post (Courtney) of Hot Springs, and great-grandchildren Henley Kate and Charlie; brothers, Thomas Post of Hoschton, GA, and Bill Post of Killen AL; and sisters, Latance Culpepper and Meada Smith of Spearsville, and Barbara Burbank of El Dorado. Eight of dad's beloved nephews will honor him as pallbearers: Robin Carroll, Nelson Post, Randy Post, Mickey Post, James Frank Smith, Joe Stratton, Lamoan Williams and Gurvis Woods. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Peter Carroll, Joseph Stratton, Nicky Thomas and Stan Post. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at Young's Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be at Young's Funeral Directors Chapel at 10 a.m. Tuesday with special Friend, Dr. Glen Morgan, and the Rev. LaVon Post officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Henley Post Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of the Union County Community Foundation (UCCF), P.O. Box 148, El Dorado, AR 71730. All donations are fully tax deductible and will be acknowledged.
