When Mary Elizabeth Willis was born on June 21, 1872, in Marion, Tennessee, her father, Andrew, was 20, and her mother, Eliza, was 18. She married William Thomas McCallie in 1887. They had 11 children in 24 years. She died on August 20, 1949, in Carlisle, Arkansas, at the age of 78, and was buried in Mayflower, Arkansas.
