Floyd attended University High School at the University of Nebraska campus, where his mother and father were employed. He came to Arkansas as a young man in the 1930’s, working in the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) during the depression. Eventually, he became a project supervisor of the Magnolia National Youth Administration (NYA) camp, another New Deal job training program for high school and college-aged youth to continue the work of the CCC in Arkansas. The camp was located where the Columbia County Fairgrounds now stands. The NYA boys were trained in mechanics and woodworking and built several local projects such as the Greek Theater at Magnolia A and M College (now Southern Arkansas University), and the Central Elementary grammar school. Floyd supervised the operation of several NYA camps in Arkansas.
He married Bobbie Douglas on Dec. 23, 1940 in Magnolia. They moved from Magnolia to Dumas, Ark, where his two sons were born.
In 1943, Floyd became the manager of Continental Emsco Co in Magnolia. He was transferred to the Continental Emsco office in Shreveport in 1958, and then transferred to El Dorado in 1967. He and his wife, Bobbie, moved back to Magnolia on his retirement in 1978.
