William Dale Minor, 87, died Sunday, June 12, 2011 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the fourth son of the late J Luther Minor, Sr and Stella Webb Minor, long-time residents of Russellville. He was born February 15, 1924 at Economy, Arkansas before the family moved to Russellville. Survivors include his dear friend and companion Ann Epps. Dale was married to the late Virginia Brooks Minor and they had one child, Dr Lloyd Brooks Minor who now lives in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr Minor is the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs of Johns Hopkins University and University Distinguished Service Professor of Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery. He is married to Dr Lisa A Keamy and they have two children, Emily Edith Keamy-Minor and Samuel Lloyd Keamy-Minor. Other survivors are his brother Jim Minor who lives in Tonkawa, Oklahoma and Cora Sue Whitaker who lives in Portland, Oregon.
Dale was predeceased by his second wife, Janie L Minor and by his two oldest brothers Webb C Minor and J L Minor, Jr and his older sister Mary E Reasoner.
Dale grew up in Russellville, Arkansas and upon graduation in 1942 from Russellville High School, he was named to the Russellville High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was co-captain of the 1941 football Crimson Cyclones, and he also participated in basketball and track and field for the Cyclones. After graduation he served in the Army Air Corps with overseas duty, primarily in China with the 16th Fighter Squadron.
After discharge from the Army Air Corps, Dale entered Oklahoma A & M (now Oklahoma State University) and graduated in 3 years with the Bachelor of Science Degree in Commerce (major in accounting) in January, 1949. Later that year he was employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Little Rock, from which he retired in 1979.
Besides his interest in athletics, he enjoyed ballroom dancing, hunting ducks and quail, fishing, and playing golf. He was a member of the American Legion, National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, and the American Association of Retired Persons.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at the Shinn Chapel with Mr. Dan Lightfoot officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery near Atkins under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Active pallbearers will be David Bewley, Hunter Hawkins, Sam Keamy-Minor, Lloyd Minor, C.O. Reasoner, Jr. and John Clyde Reasoner.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to support undergraduate financial aid at Johns Hopkins University, Office of the Vice President for Development, 225 San Martin Center, Johns Hopkins University, 3400 N Charles Street,
