LaQuita Long Cannon was born 29 June 1930 to Murl Long and Edith Ophelia Whiting Long in Tichnor, Arkansas County, Arkansas. She married William Hoy Cannon. They lived in Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas. City Directories have 1955 address Duncan Avenue Apt. 6; 1957, 1959 & 1983 address 725 E. Woodlawn; 1987 address 100 N. Skyline Drive #1 72701-4429. Phone directories 1993-2002 have LaQuita address as 100 N. Skyline Drive #1. She lived in Fayetteville till 2005 when she moved to 3121 Bourbon Street Circle, Rockwall, Texas 75032-5416. She later moved to 963 W. Yellow Jacket Lane, Apt 315, Rockwall, Texas 75087.
LaQuita was a special education teacher and counselor. She worked as a volunteer with the Junior Civic League to help establish the Richardson Center in Fayetteville, a training center for school age handicapped children. Other volunteer work included cooking for the community meals program at Central United Methodist Church, Shiloh Museum, Life Styles, a living and training facility for adult handicapped individuals. She was member of the Ozark Society, Ozark Highland Chapter serving as the treasurer for some years, the Ozark Highland Trail Association in Fayetteville. the Philanthropic Educational Organization and Junior Civic League.
Some of LaQuita's activities included reading books, book discussion group, playing Bridge, traveling, day hiking, backpacking, trail building and maintenance, cycling with friends.
She was cremated. Her cremains were buried on 29 September 2018 in the Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens in De Witt, Arkansas County, Arkansas with family and friends attending the service.
