Sammye L. Major passed away peacefully on November 7, 2014 at the St. Lukes Hospice in Kansas City, Mo. She was born June 24, 1937 to Vernia and Willis Strain who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ronald W. Major, son Ronald W. Major 11 of Overland Park, Kan. and siblings, Dan Strain, Rose Bud, Ark., Perry Strain, Pensacola, Fla. and Billie Oliver, Cabot, Ark. She also had a host of nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews in the central Arkansas area. Sammye was a wonderful homemaker, devoted grandmother and marvelous cook. In her latter years she enjoyed golfing with her husband and with the Ladies golf association at the Searcy Country Club. Memorial donations may be made to University of Kansas Cancer Center. A Memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Powell Funeral Home, Searcy with graveside services to follow at the St. Mary's Cemetery, Rose Bud, Ark.
