Obituary
James A. Gould, 75, of Batesville died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at a local hospital.

Born Sept. 8, 1926, at Batesville, he was the son of Joe E. and Dorthea Linebarger Gould. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, a paint salesman, retired from Bryant Lumber Company and was most recently working for Karpet Korner in Batesville. He coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball in Batesville for many years. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church at Southside, where he served as a deacon for 47 years.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Wolford Gould; two sons, James E. Gould and John K. Gould, both of Batesville; two half brothers, Joe P. Gould and Sam Gould, both of Batesville; two sisters, Gail Thomas of Sacramento, Calif., and Jo Ann Gottfried of Fresno, Calif.; four grandchildren, Ashley Brooke Pectol of Newark, Brandon P. Gould, James Tyler Gould and Thomas Andrew Gould, all of Batesville; a great-grandchild, Baylee Pectol of Newark; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three half brothers, Edward Dean Gould, Douglas Gould and an infant; and a half sister, Shiria Osborn.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church at Southside with Kenneth Altom officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Cushman with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service.

Pallbearers will be Bill Lillard, Doug Bryant, Joey Richardson, Don Ferguson, Walter Tate and Clarence Lusk.

Honorary pallbearers will be Hairl Anderson, Donnie Branscum, Charles McCluskey and the Rev. David McGhghy.
