March 27, 1880 - March 7, 1972
Mrs. Bertha Griffing, 91, of 433 Louise St., died Tuesday morning in a local nursing home following a lengthy illness. Born at Bruno, Mo. on March 27, 1880, she was the daughter of George and Mary Davis Luttrell. A resident of El Dorado since 1923, she was a charter member of Vantrease United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Jollie G. Griffing, El Dorado; four daughters, Mrs. Lillie Smith, Miss Lelia Griffing and Mrs. J. C. Slayter, all of El Dorado, and Mrs. Jollyene Cunningham of Malvern; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Rumph Mortuary with the Rev. Kirvin A. Hale officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Griffing's grandsons: Walter Gene Slayter, Donald Slayter, Tommy Tullis, Johnny Ingram, Tim Ingram and James Ermon Griffin. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the men's Bible Class of Vantrease United Methodist Church. (The El Dorado Times - March 7, 1972)
