Mildred Jean Yancey, of Columbia, died Monday, May 5, 2014, at the age of 75.
She was a devoted wife, caring sister and loving mother and grandmother. She had a tremendous love for her family and for the Lord. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia since 1979.
She was the owner of Belle Tournure, a ladies specialty clothing boutique, for 28 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing with her grandchildren and cheering for the Gamecocks and the Razorbacks.
She was born Aug. 18, 1938, in Bearden, Ark. and was the daughter of the late Aubrey William and Willie Virginia Lindsey and the wife of the late Joel Benjamin Yancey, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Joel Scott Yancey (Liz), of Atlanta.; daughter, Michelle Yancey Smith (Marc), of Simpsonville; sister, Evelyn Loretta Weathersby (Ray), of Little Rock, Ark.; brother, William Clyde Lindsey, of Pasadena, Calif.; grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Yancey, Mary Margaret Yancey, Connor Yancey Smith and Joel Watkins Smith; and step-grandchildren, Sarah Jane Hall and Norina Josephine Hall.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, Columbia. There will also be visitation services held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2014, at Proctor Funeral Home in Camden, Ark. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2014, in Salem Cemetery in Bearden, Ark., with burial following in a family plot.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation , P.O. Box 96280, Washington DC 20077-7431 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
