Doris Marie Womack Lafferty, born in Manning, Ark., Jan. 24, 1926, died of leukemia March 16, 2004, in Columbia, Mo., at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Brent Jones. Predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Jack Lafferty and her grandson, B.J. Jones, survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Nancy and Bill Bowen of Fayetteville and Dallas, Texas, Linda and Don Ladd of Chicago, Pat and Brent Jones of Columbia, Mo. Grandsons and families include Scott and Heather, Corrine and Callie Bowen of Kansas City, Mo., Mike and Mardi, Collier and Drew Bowen of Dallas, Texas, Clark Lafferty Jones and Tyler Douglas Jones of Columbia, Mo. Sisters include Erline Craine of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Francis Rigsby of Moses Lake, Wash. She also leaves nieces and nephews.
Doris received her B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. As a registered dietitian, she was past president of the Arkansas Dietetic Association and retired as assistant director of resident dining services at the University of Arkansas. She was an accomplished professional woman who took great pride in her family. She enjoyed writing, travel and spending time with her family. Her greatest legacy to all was love.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today March 18 at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 19 at Fairview Memorial Gardens under the direction of Moore's Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to crie of her favorite charities, St. Jude Children's Hospital of Memphis; Parkinson's Disease Foundation; Leukemia Foundation; American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice.
