Fred A. Swan, 72, of Fayetteville died Sunday, July 23, 2006, at Washington Regional Medical Center.

He was born June 7, 1934, in Logan, Iowa, the son of Clay and Pearl Bates Swan.

He was retired from Ozarks Electric and served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Enterprise Cars for the past four years.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Birchfield Swan; two sons, Rickey Swan and Lee Swan, both of Fayetteville; one daughter, Glenda Sue Sullins and her husband Rick of Fayetteville; a brother, Lt. Col. (retired) Ronald Swan and his wife Ellie of Little Rock; a sister, JoAnn Neely and her husband John of Nashville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Matt and Tyler Sullins.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 27 at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville, online at www.mooresfuneralchapel.com.

Scott Gage will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital, P.O. Drawer 2222, Little Rock, 72203.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Moore's.

FAYETTEVILLE — Ruth Evelyn Swan, 76, of Fayetteville, passed away Jan. 6, 2011. She was born Jan. 7, 1934, in Kenny, Ark., to Virgil and Iva Harrison Birchfield.

Ruth was raised on a farm and after marrying and raising her family she spent her time fishing, quilting, gardening and especially enjoyed traveling.

She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Fred A. Swan; son, Jimmie Swan; sister, Sylvia Birchfield and brother, Sam Ray Birchfield, and brother-in-law Carl B. Jones.

She is survived by her mother, Iva Birchfield of Winslow; sons, Ricky Swan and Freddie Lee Swan of the home; daughter, Glenda Sullins and her husband Rick of Fayetteville; four sisters, Bertha Jones of Lowell, Faye Birchfield and Joyce Bridges and husband Larry, both of Indiana, Jane Rosebeary and her husband Nolen of Farmington; two brothers, Charlie Birchfield and his wife Janie of Winslow, Dean Birchfield and his wife Debbie of Winslow; two grandchildren, Matt and Tyler Sullins, both of Fayetteville.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at Moore's Chapel.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Moore's Chapel with the Rev. Scott Gage officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Grant Birchfield, Johnny Vanover, Johnny Birchfield, Matt Sullins, Tyler Sullins and Jesse Sullins. Honorary pallbearers will be Nolen Rosebeary, Stan Sullins, Kevin Rosebeary and Henry Birchfield.
