Alice Olivia Chandler Rumph, 89, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005, in Little Rock. Alice was born May 18, 1915, to Cleveland and Julia Chandler in Commerce, Georgia. She married James Harvey Rumph on March 5, 1938, making their home in Camden, Arkansas.
"Alice was a 50-year member of the Camden Business and Professional Women’s Club.
"She was an active member of Camden First United Methodist Church, the Couples’ Class, and United Methodist Women, the Camden Garden Club, and a volunteer for the Ouachita County Hospital Auxiliary.
"First and foremost, Alice was wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, and enjoyed nothing more than the company of her beloved family.
"Alice worked alongside her husband, James Harvey Rumph, Ouachita County Tax Assessor and Interim County Judge, for more than 25 years. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1998.
"Her husband, James Harvey Rumph, and her sisters, Doris Chandler and Edith Brannon, precede Alice in death.
"She is survived by her children, Julia Hughes Jones, Jacksonville, Florida, Dottie Rumph Lindsey (Carl), Searcy, James G. Rumph (Linda), Marco Island, Florida, Alice Rumph Smith, Little Rock; her niece, Elise Ann Daniel (Ted), Dallas, Texas; and grandchildren, David Hughes (Carol), Carl E. Lindsey III (Daryn), Betsy Landman (Mark), Heather Richmond (Steve), John C. Lindsey (Tiffany), Holly James, Lori Barnes (Joe), Jennifer Baur (Andrew), Laurel Rumph, Preston Smith; and 15 great-grandchildren. Alice is also survived by sisters, Julia Nekolny (Bob) of Sarasota, and Sybil Cromer of Tallahassee, Fla., and many beloved nieces and nephews.
"Visitation will be at 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Proctor Funeral Home in Camden. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Camden, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
