Anna Louise (Raney) Harrell of Mayflower peacefully passed from this life surrounded by all her family at Conway Regional Hospital. She had fought a long battle with COPD, but was called home on March 12, 2010.

Ann was born to J. H. “Holly” and Mary Frances “Poopsie” Raney on July 8, 1931 in Providence in Faulkner County and spent her life in Mayflower as a retail business woman working at Raney’s Grocery and Ann’s Crafts. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Mayflower and an active citizen both for Mayflower and Faulkner County. Ann served as a Justice of the Peace and member of the Faulkner County Quorum Court for forty years until her retirement in 2004. Her retirement was only because of her health. She still was free with her advice on how Faulkner County should operate. Her first election was in 1964 as a joke. Her brother and sister-in-law wrote her in as a candidate for a newly established position. Little did anyone know how serious she would take her job to serve the county. Her favorite part of being a JP was marrying people, of which there were hundreds, including family members. She was elected Citizen of the Year for Mayflower in 1998.

She was a staunch “Yellow Dog Democrat” and would often tell people, “She was Democrat born, Democrat bred, and when she died, she would be Democrat dead.”

She is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Royce Harrell; five children, Sharon Green and late husband Kenneth of Mayflower, Susan Hunthrop and Bill of Rogers, Rocky Harrell and Shelia of Mayflower, Rick Harrell and Jane of Russellville, and Mark Harrell and Suzanne of Mayflower; eleven grandchildren, Shannon Long, Russ Webb, Ron Webb, Karon Green, Lance Green, Christopher Harrell, Rachael Harrell, Blake Harrell, Audrey Anna Harrell, Justin Harrell, and Paul Harrell; seven great-grandchildren, Jordan Long, Bailey Webb, Lauren Long, Autumn Webb, and Aaron Rogers; sister, Janice Harrell and Frank of Mayflower; brother Jimmy Raney of Mayflower; ten nieces and nephews, seventeen great nieces and nephews, and seven great great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Conway. Burial will follow at Mayflower Cemetery with Ron Webb, Russ Webb, Christopher Harrell, Lance Green, Blake Harrell, Justin Harrell, and Paul Harrell, serving as pallbearers. Jim Evans and Bill Ausbrooks will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Monday, March 15, 2010.
