Lois Janet “Polly” Hicks age 81 of El Dorado, passed from this life on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Oak Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center in El Dorado. Polly was born on October 13, 1932 in Alexander City, Alabama to the late William Alonzo and Edna Lois (Sheppard) Carter.
Polly was a nurse for Dr. Grady Hill, serving 22 years before her retirement. Numerous people knew Polly from being at Dr. Hills” office for so many years and hated to see her go when she retired. Polly loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and going camping. Polly was quite the good Photographer and she especially liked taking photos of nature and her grandkids. She and John also enjoyed all the good times spent at the family deer camps during the holidays. Polly enjoyed cooking and sharing her food with numerous friends, family and those shut in their homes. Polly was a model family and faithful, Christian woman, which was demonstrated by her words and actions towards others. Polly loved her family dearly, was a best friend to many and will truly be missed by all that knew her.
Polly is preceded in death by her parents; step father, Judge Dewey Carter SR; her husband, John Thomas” J.T.” Hicks; her son, Thomas Dale Hicks; two sisters, Ruth Ann Jolley and Mary Rowe.
Those left to cherish her memory include: her daughter in law, Rae Lynn Parrish and her husband Jim of El Dorado; two grandsons, whom were the light of her life, Lee Carter Hicks and Benjamin Joel Parrish both of El Dorado; two sisters, Sandra Binns of Crossett, Judy Keppel and husband Jim of Little Rock; two brothers, Dewey Carter and wife Wanda, Henry Carter and wife Betty all of Crossett also, numerous nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
A guestbook will be available from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm today at Bailey Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon on Friday at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with funeral services following at 1:00 p.m. Funeral service will be officiated by Bro. Terry Burke and Bro. Jimmy Binns. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado.
The Family wishes to say a special thank you to all the staff of Melvin’s Pharmacy, Oak Ridge Nursing Home and Life Touch Hospice for their care and compassion over these last few years and months. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to all of those close neighbors and friends who loved and served Polly and John throughout their lives. These relationships have been a true testimony of deep love and loyalty to us, her family.
Memorials may be made to Life Touch Hospice in Memory of Lois J. “Polly” Hicks.
