Rick Cook
EL DORADO - On May 6, 1960, Rick Cook was born to Oliver Dempsey Cook and David Jean (Gipson) Cook, of Black Oak, Arkansas. As a child, Rick loved working on the family cotton farm and playing with his dog, Diamond. He was a friend to many, active in athletics and the arts. He had a passion for music and helping the underdog. Rick served his country as a corpsman in the United States Navy before attending Harding University, where he graduated with degrees in psychology and business. He worked to complete his masters and received an honorary doctorate later in life.

Rick was proud of his career of serving others. He was instrumental in developing the first successful youth addiction treatment program for adolescents. His knowledge in administering the program led to more than 20 years of hospital administration. He served as CEO and/or administrator in hospitals in Arkansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas. When Rick's health began to fail, he was still active in free counseling and the countywide recovery program. He was a member of the College Avenue Church of Christ and proudly served as a deacon and teacher before resigning due to health reasons.

A son, husband, father, poppy, and friend, Rick believed he was blessed to have lived a wonderful life. His career led him to cross paths with a variety of people whom impacted his life in a positive manner. Rick loved deeply and will never truly know the influence his unconditional love had on everyone who knew him.

At age 55, Rick Cook, of El Dorado, began his Heavenly walk on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at John R. Williamson Hospice House after a courageous battle.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 32½ years, Pam Cook; daughter, Taylon Lyndee Steele (Daniel) of Little Rock; son, Jared Andrew Cook of Malvern; brother, David Michael Cook (Pat) of Monette; sister, Marla Gaye Layne (Skip) of Monette; grandchildren, Eva Kenadee Cook of El Dorado, Sutton Lyndee Steele and Gabriel Larkin Steele of Little Rock; parents-in-law, Jim and Willene Massey, sister-in-law, Twila Massey, brother-in-law, James Massey (Terrie) of Strawberry; his precious friend, Barbara Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
