The Rev. Bennie Gene Ruth, 73, of Stamps, formerly of Fort Smith, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000. He was licensed in the Methodist church in 1949 and did evangelistic mission work in eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas until 1955. He attended Westark College, Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University in Dallas and extended courses at the University of Arkansas. He was instrumental in merging and organizing Wesley Methodist Church in Fort Smith and Cavanaugh Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith United Methodist Church in Fort Smith, with burial in the Barling Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Craig Ruth; two daughters, Sandy Ruth and Cindy Groce, both of Stamps; two sons, Ron of Roland and Rick of Fort Smith; one brother, Ralph of Fort Smith; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
