Henry Meek Peace, 75, well known Camden resident, died early Friday morning in the local hospital, after an illness of three years. Mr. Peace was born near Camden in 1890 , and was the son of the late J. G. and Mary Louise Peace. He taught school for many years in Ouachita and Calhoun counties, and after leaving the teaching profession, he went into the wholesale and retail lumber business, and also real estate. He was married in 1919 to the former Pearl Allen, and in 1936, they opened and operated the Fairway Dept. Store, which was located on Jefferson St. Mr. Peace retired from the business world in 1950. He was an honorary steward at St. Mark Methodist Church, and for many years was an active member of the Camden Lions Club. He is survived by his wife; two brothers, J. M. Peace and M. E. Peace of Magnolia, and two sisters-in-law, Miss Minnie Allen of Camden and Mrs. Ira Peace of McAllen, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Proctor Funeral Home. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery, near Louann. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark Methodist Church. (Camden News - January 28, 1966)
