Herman Max Horton, a long time resident of the city of Forrest City, died at his home early Thursday morning February 12, 2009 at the age of 82, slipping quietly away to be reunited with his beloved wife Alta, who preceded him in death. Many will remember Max for being an avid Razorback fan and for the many stories he would tell while working his route as an insurance salesman for Interstate Life and Reliable Insurance Companies. Max was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a medic. Max was born on November 30, 1926 in Ethel Arkansas, the first son of fourteen children born to Mack and Susie Horton who preceded him in death. He had three siblings that also preceded him in death: Bennie and James Horton of Ethel and Geraldine Maddox of Poplar Bluff, MO. He leaves those to mourn his return to heaven the following: Four children: Alice Sue Mason, Rebecca Kay Moore and April Marie Horton of this city, Herman Max Horton, Jr. of Southhaven, MS. Seven grandchildren: Angela Heard and Joseph Moore of this city, Michelle Like of Colt, Heather Hazeslip and Heath Horton of Cabot, Patti Spain of Marion and Guy Hamilton Moore of Nashville, TN. Seven great grandchildren: Alisa Sue Elliott, James Nathaniel and Eli Like, Elizabeth, Whitney and Jonathan Hazeslip, Elizabeth and Hunter Spain. Two great great grandchildren: Darion Rock Reaves ( Max's best friend) and his brother Ja'rell. Four brothers: Haynes Horton of Pine Bluff, Jimmie and Tommie Horton of Dewitt and Floyd Horton of Ethel. Six sisters: Nora Watson of DeWitt, Sue Noble of Morrilton, Linda Cummings of Lonoke, Judy DePriest of Stuttgart, Nancy Posey of Bartlett, Tennessee and Polly Emmons of Redfield. Max will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Morgan Chapel with Bro. A.G. Loyd officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.

Mrs. Alta Inez Horton, age 75, of Forrest City, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis. She was born June 30, 1932, in St. Charles, he daughter of Arguyland Daniel Longnecker and Alice Bitticks Longnecker. She was a Methodist. She is survived by her husband, Max Horton; two daughters, Sue Mason and Rebecca Moore both of Forrest City; a son, Max Horton Jr. of Southhaven, Miss; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Morgan Chapel. Funeral services for Mrs. Horton will be held Sunday, December 30, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Morgan Chapel, with Elder A.G. Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.
