Margaret Dorene Powell Harris, 72, of Little Rock, went to be with the Lord Thursday, November 4, 2021, on the thirty-third anniversary of her marriage to Edward McCray Harris, from complications of Parkinson’s disease.

She was born November 2, 1949, in Little Rock to the late Leslie J. and Joan Westbrook Powell. She graduated from high school in Yuba City, California in 1967 and attended Yuba College. After moving back to Little Rock in 1969, she began working for the Arkansas State Health Department, retiring in 2014. She spent many years working in Health Statistics at the Health Department.

Dorene loved animals, especially Siberian Huskies and birds, and spent many hours working with arts and crafts. Her special interest was quilting, and she made many beautiful quilts, a talent she could no longer use after the progression of Parkinson’s disease. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she and Edward were married in 1988.

In addition to her parents, Dorene was preceded in death by a brother, David Powell, and a sister Joanne Powell. She is survived by her husband Edward, a brother James W. Powell and his wife, Yong Hui, of Navarre, Florida, sister-in-law Kay Powell and niece Laura Powell of Little Rock, and niece Tammy Ramirez and husband Mathew of Navarre, Florida.

She was a highly intelligent, witty person and will be greatly missed.

There will be a visitation held on Tuesday November 9, 2021 from 6pm-8pm at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service at Pinecrest Memorial Park on Thursday November 11, 2021 starting at 11am.
