September 13, 1874 - March 28, 1948
W. J. Clingan, aged 73, well known Chidester resident and merchant for many years, died Sunday morning at the Camden Hospital after a long illness. He had been in business in Chidester for the past 40 years. He is survived by two sons, Chester and Roy Clingan, both of Chidester; a brother, A. A. Clingan of Gulfport, Miss.; a sister, Mrs. Levia Bullock of Cullendale; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. today at the Methodist Church, Chidester, with Rev. J. A. Newell and Rev. Charles Wyatt officiating. Burial in Chidester cemetery. Active pallbearers: J. T. Walker, Jr., Leonard Bussell, Carvil Gage, Calvin Mosley, Reed Ledbetter, and Carl Dickerson.
