Beloved and devoted husband, father, step-father, son, brother, and grandfather passed away peacefully at home in the early morning on July 26, 2011 in Magnolia, Texas. Rick was born January 16, 1955 in Nowata, Oklahoma to Harry Allen and Joyce Ann Jones. Rick was a 1973 Nowata High School honor graduate and later attended Oklahoma State University, receiving his Chemistry degree in 1977. In December 1998 Rick met Karen Rea, and they married on June 30, 1999.
Kind and generous to a fault, Rick always found it difficult to say no to helping out a family member or taking on a difficult task at work. His career began at Dresser Industries shortly after college graduation and continued through mergers, acquisitions and spin-offs, ending with BJ Services in 2009. He then took on the challenge of opening a new division for a smaller company, and his hard work and stubborn persistence were responsible for the division he started becoming the most profitable one in the entire company despite an utter lack of resources. Away from work, Rick loved to ski and ride motorcycles and was happiest outdoors, even in the very last day of his life. He was an enthusiastic fan of chocolate and the St. Louis Cardinals, with the Houston Astros coming in a distant second. He will be remembered for his sweet and quiet nature, his toothy grin, and the moustache that was his signature for so many years.
Rick is survived by his wife, Karen Jones; his children, Bradley Jones and Monique Johnson and her husband, Eric, their sons, Jesstin and Kaden, and their daughter, Scarlett; two step-daughters, Kimberly Gonzalez and her husband, Richard, daughter, Victoria, and son, Stephen, Brittany Perez and her husband, Jeffrey, and step-son, Matthew Perez and his two daughters, Taylor and Kenzie; his mother, Joyce Jones; his sister, Marilyn McAfee and her husband, George and their son, Matthew, his sister, Michelle and her husband, Mark, and their two daughters, Paige and Lainey. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Harry Allen Jones, and his brother, Kerry Jones. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Spruce Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, 300 NE Spruce Avenue, Bartlesville, OK 74006 with pastor Randy Bettis presiding.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the American Cancer Society with funds designated for lung cancer.
