M. MATLOCK

Pleasant Ridge Cemetery
Marion County,
Arkansas

July 7, 1858 - January 18, 1918

h/o Rosa B. Matlock
s/o Smith & Harriet (Hamm) Matlock

According to his obituary he had lived out west for 17 years, but he realized his end was near, and he wanted to return to his old home. He arrived in Yellville, checked into the hotel to await conveyance to the home of his brother, Judge Sam Matlock, but developed pneumonia and died that night.

His obituary indicated that he was a member of the W.O.W & I.O.O.F. Lodges. His grave is marked by this Woodmen of The World (W.O.W) gravestone. The gravestone is on a foundation that extends to the south where there is a similar marker for his wife, Rosa B. Matlock. Her marker is somewhat of a mystery since apparently the W.O.W. was for men only, and the W.O.W. markers were always for men. Her marker does not have a W.O.W. emblem on it, but it is an upright tree trunk also.
