Funeral services for Charles Edward "Big Daddy" Covington, 69, of West Helena were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Rev O S Cooper and Rev Gary Anderson officiated. Burial was in sunset Memorial Park.
Mr Covington died Feb 12, 1994 at his home near Barton. He was a retired employee of Mohawk Tire and Rubber Company and was a veteran of World War II.
He leaves his wife, Avis Covington of West Helena; one daughter, Mary Ann Griffith of Marvell; one son, Charles Covington; two adopted sons, James Terry of Jonesboro, Charles A Covington of West Helena; four foster daughters, Shirley Muffoletto of West Helena, Debbie Byrd of Moon Lake, Miss, Betty Adkins and C G Cullum both of Barton; one foster son, Roger Allen Ralph of Barton; one sister, Jannett Shackelford of Marvell; one brother, Jim Covington of Salina, Kansas; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Dale Owens, Larry Trowbridge, Bill Bailes, Jewell Boatman, Gene Shackelford and Rudee Mauldin.
Honorary pallbearers were; Buddy Lynn, Paul Miller, John Peeples, Howard Guthrie, Gene Tucker, Gene Wooten and Jesse Grant.
