Miss Mary Ann Messick
Miss Mary Ann Messick, age 79, of the Monkey Run Community, Arkansas, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013, at the Gassville Therapy and Living Center in Gassville.
She was born August 28, 1933, in Monkey Run to Reverend Herbert Alfred and Esta Mae Raymond Messick. Miss Messick began working at the Gassville Post Office in 1964, retiring as Postmaster. The daughter of a prominent Baptist minister, Miss Messick was a member of Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church where she served as organist and Sunday school class teacher and was active in the White River Baptist Association.
Her mother was a retired school teacher at Monkey Run and area schools.
Miss Messick was a historian and wrote the book “The History of Baxter County”. She was a volunteer at Cotter Elementary School. She enjoyed watching her nieces and nephews play sports during their athletic careers, and she had a special love for animals especially cats.
Survivors are two sisters: Alma Franks and Leona (Bob) Cheek: all of Monkey Run; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister: Alpha Tilton.
Visitation will be from Noon-9:00 P.M. Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Roller Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:30-7:00 P.M. Graveside Services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery with Reverend Gene Carson officiating. Memorials may be made to Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church.
