Born on January 11, 1910 in Waco, Texas, Lynwood was the son of Thomas Moss Rowe and Ruby Ann Hardin. He was very athletic at a young age and began playing semi-pro baseball at fifteen, being the youngest on the team, he was tagged with the name "Schoolboy". He was hired by the Detroit Tigers in 1932 and played his first game in 1933. He remained with the Tigers until 1942. He went to the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1942. He played for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1943, but his career was short-lived as he joined the US Navy and served from 1944 to 1945. In 1934 he married Edna Mary Skinner. Lynwood died of a heart attack on January 8, 1961 in El Dorado, Arkansas.
