Elmer Ray Staggs, son of the late Charles Baxter Staggs and Martha Oral Landers Staggs, was born April 15, 1924 in Pineville, Arkansas. He departed this life April 11, 2013 at his home in Calico Rock, Arkansas at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 27 days. He was united in marriage to Elsie McGowan in February 1946 in Harriette, Arkansas. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. During his working years, he was a logger and raised cattle. He was a member of the Calico Rock VFW.

He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law: Paul and Toni Staggs of Optimus and Edward Staggs of Calico Rock; one daughter-in-law: Marlene Staggs of Calico Rock; five grandchildren: Robert Staggs, Roy Staggs, Suzette Staggs, Joe Staggs, and Dana Staggs; nine great grandchildren: Gary Sample, Bobby Sample, Wayland Sample, Kimber Hendrix, Shanyna Staggs, Roy Staggs, Braxton Staggs, Keagan Staggs and Christopher Lowery; one sister-in-law: Alma Staggs of Calico Rock and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 60 years: Elsie Staggs; one son: Bobby Staggs; two grandchildren: Michael Staggs and Jana Marie Staggs; two brothers: James Rufus Staggs, Donald Edward Staggs; two sisters: Allien Ward and Lucille Heiner.

Funeral service will be Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Calico Rock Funeral Chapel with Ray Lamb officiating. Burial will be at Table Rock Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock.
