LORMER, Chas. - Gravette, February 11.- A powder explosion occurred Friday morning about nine o'clock at the Ozark Lime Works, two miles south of Gravette, while a party of men were digging out frozen powder from an intended blast. Suddenly from some cause the powder exploded with fatal results to Chas. Lormer, a transient laborer, blowing his left leg off. He died a few minutes later. The explosion seriously injured Charley Burrow, 17-year-old son of J.W. Burrow of Decatur. A rock struck him on the face and forehead and tore away a portion of his upper lip. The foreman of the plant, Andy Phillips, was also badly shocked but not injured. Chas. Lormer, the man killed, was literally blown to pieces. He was an expert powder man who moved here but a short time ago from Joplin. He was about 48 years of age and leaves a large family who were entirely dependent on him. It is stated that the foreman warned them not to bother the blast as it was liable to discharge. After giving such orders he started away and they proceeded to dig when the explosion took place, blowing the latter 10 or 15 feet into the air.
