Charles Melton (C.M.) Sneed passed away August 31, 2011 in Conway, Arkansas after a short battle with lung cancer. He was born April 14, 1936 in Quitman, Arkansas to Fletcher and Nicey (Bettis) Sneed. C.M. Attended and graduated from Quitman High School in 1954. He was of the Methodist faith and a member of the Quitman United Methodist Church. While serving in the United States Air Force as a Radar Operator, he married Carolyn Copeland on September 1, 1955. They traveled with the military the next four years then returned to Quitman where he ran a dairy farm and a downtown grocery store. Later he joined Burroughs Corporation as a machine technician for eight years. In 1963 they returned to Quitman and he became a cattle farmer and rural mail carrier, he retired from the United States Postal Service after 20 years. When C.M. Retired, he and Carolyn enjoyed traveling with their many RV friends both in and out of state. He had a great love and passion for his farm, he loved cutting firewood, fishing in the ponds on his farm and deer hunting.
He had many friends he visited with daily on the phone and in person, he was at his happiest when company would stop by for a short or long visit, he loved gardening and prided himself on the quality and quantity of tomatoes he could harvest.
C. M.was predeceased by his parents; grandparents, Marvin and Della Phillips Sneed, James and Mellisa Bettis; one nephew, Greg Sneed; one niece, Cindy Sneed; brother-in-law, Jack Bennett; his mother and father-in-law, D.L. (Buster) and Vernette Herring Copeland.
C.M.leaves to morn his passing, wife of 56 years, Carolyn Copeland Sneed; daughter, Janie Baker of Quitman; granddaughter, Brooklyn Baker of Conway; brother, Wallace (Jo Ann) of Heber Springs; Pat (Ann) of Quitman; sister, Marvelle Sneed Burford (Lynn) of Quitman; nephews, David and Mitchell Sneed, Chad Burford, David and Dale Bennett; nieces, Karen Sneed Davison, Angis Sneed Wilson, Christy Burford Barger, Karen Bennett Reeves, Jacque Bennett Reynolds; his sister-in-law, Linda Sue Bennett; Colombian daughter, Janeth Jimenez and family, husband Hernando, daughter, Lily and Chris Sealey and Monica Jimenez; numerous great nieces and nephews; many friends state and nation wide and special friends and helpers Debra and Dennis Williams.
Funeral service will be Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 2:00pm at the Quitman United Methodist Church with Reverend Joe Kennedy and Reverend Brad Sneed officiating. Interment will follow in the Quitman Cemetery under the direction of the Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Conway (501)327-7727. The family will receive friends Friday, September 2, 2011 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier (501)679-2575.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Lance Reynolds, Barry Clark, Dale Bennett, Jake Dobbins, Chad Burford, James Baker, David Sneed and Daniel Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be, Brad Sneed, B.J. Swaffar, B.J. McNair, Bob Cargile, Lynn Burford, Billy Don Hogg, Dr. Gary Stewart, David Bennett and Mitchell Sneed.
Memorials may be made to the Quitman United Methodist Church, 44 College Street, Quitman, AR 72131.
