Fatal Automobile Accident

At 8:56 p.m. on January 11, 1994, Izard County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Hall was called to investigate a one vehicle accident. According to the Izard County Sheriff’s Office a local resident heard the crash and reported the accident.
The accident occurred three miles south of Calico Rock on County Road 13 also known as Boswell Road. Deputy Coroner Lois Fessler pronounced Larry Wayne Gwaltney, the driver of an El Camino, dead at the scene. Gwaltney apparently lost control, ran off the road and struck a tree. Mr. Gwaltney was not wearing a seat belt.
The accident is still under investigation. See obituary on page 8.

Larry Wayne Gwaltney 46 of Calico Rock, Arkansas died on January 11, 1994.
Mr. Gwaltney was born in Hoxie, Arkansas, graduated high school in Jonesboro and received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Arkansas State University. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, was a swimming instructor for many years in the Jonesboro area and served in the Arkansas Army National Guard for six years. He moved to the Calico Rock area in 1973 and operated White River Bookkeeping Service.
Mr. Gwaltney was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Louise Gwaltney of Jonesboro. He is survived by one sister, Martha Lea; one niece, Elizabeth Lea; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Memorials may be made to the Calico Rock Public Library.
Private services for friends and family will be held Saturday, January 22nd at 1:00 p.m. at Gorby. Interested persons may call 297-8910.

[Note: The gravestone is a bench, and the following inscription is on the top of the bench:
