History: John Styles Ragland came to Drew County around 1858 acquiring considerable acreage and from this estate was deeded the land for cemetery, school and church with the cemetery being separated from the church property in 1864. (Ref. Newspaper article from Advance Monticellonian, "Did You Know That" by Jimmy Fox, Sept. 21, 1961).
