November 25, 1852 - February 20, 1937
John M. "Squire" Blacke, aged 84, former justice of the peace of Ouachita county, and well known pioneer resident, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ed L. Watson Saturday night. He had been in failing health for the past year. Mr. Blake was born in Darlington district, South Carolina, but moved to this section when a small boy. He resided in Nevada county with his family for a time and then came to Camden where he was employed by the late George Ritchie for many years and then later with the Gordon Supply Company here. Mrs. Blake died a few years ago. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Watson home with the Rev. C. M. Reves, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery with Proctor mortuary in charge. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Watson, twin sisters, Mrs. Will Godbold, of Idabel, Oklahoma; and Miss Hattie Blake of Cuero, Tex. Pallbearers were O. C. Reeves, Jeff May, R. B. Boddie, Mr. White, Jim Nunn, and J. L. Hendricks. (Camden News - February 22, 1937)
