MELBOURNE - William E. Guthrie, 68, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, in Batesville. Born Dec. 17, 1929, in Bandmill, he was the son of the late Walter and Maude Tomlinson Guthrie.

He attended State Teachers College and graduated with a master's degree in education. He taught school in Violet Hill, Newport, Seymore and Missouri and was superintendent of Melbourne High School from 1966 to 1975. Later, he joined the staff of Ozarka Technical College.

He was a World War II veteran, a member of the Melbourne Masonic Lodge No. 141 and a member of the Melbourne United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Teague Guthrie; a daughter, Laura Guthrie of Conway; four sisters, Val Blum and Faye Peckman, both of Dearborn, Mich., and Shirley Hill and Betty G. McCollum, both of Melbourne; and two brothers, John Guthrie of Batesville and Bob Guthrie of Melbourne.

The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Roman and Billy Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Frank Shell officiating.

Burial will be at Melbourne Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.

Pallbearers will be Doug Rush, Ronnie Rush, Ron Stovall, Larry Wilks, Glen Billingsley and Jerry Brewer.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Miller, Jim Miller, Walter Hall, Bill Wright and Lloyd Cossey.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to Ozarka Technical College Foundation.
