September 22, 1921 - December 29, 1944
The body of S-Sgt. Rayford H. Williams who was killed in a plane crash on Adak Island Dec. 29, 1944, will arrive in Camden at 3:18 p.m. Friday over the Cotton Belt lines from the Fort Worth Army depot. He was born on Sept. 22, 1920 at Tinsman, Ark., and entered the Army on Sept. 22, 1942. For 22 months he was stationed at Attu Island and was on his way home for his first furlough when his plane crashed. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alberta Williams of Red Oak, Iowa; a son, Rayford Edward Williams, also of Red Oak; his mother, Mrs. Ophie Williams of 803 Maple street, Camden; four sisters, Mrs. Edna Williams of Tinsman; Mrs. Eva Russell of Camden; Mrs. Velma Moseley of Fordyce; Mrs. Fay Thomason of Elliott; five brothers, Floyd of Fordyce; Lee of Tinsman; Carroll and A. C. both of Elliott; and Larson of Camden. Funeral arrangements are in charge of Proctor mortuary. (Camden News - September 23, 1948)
