James Earl McVey, son of the late James and Alice Butler McVey was born at Oxford, Arkansas on May 26, 1903. Departed this life in the Fulton County Hospital on December 16, 1975 at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 20 days.

He was united in marriage to Esther Yancey at Oxford on January 28, 1923 and to this union one child was born.

He leaves to mourn his passing his companion of the home at Oxford; one son James W. McVey of Wichita, Kansas; three brothers, Elmer McVey of Yakima, Washington, Granville McVey of Manhattan, Kansas, Homer McVey of Fort Smith, Arkansas; seven sisters, Elva Soden and Alma Porterfield both of Melbourne, Arkansas, Maude Yancey of Wideman, Arkansas, Addie Curey and Hettie McGaha both of Wenatchee, Washington, Nettie Durin of Merced, California, Estelle Tate of Fort Smith, Arkansas; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and many, many friends.

He was a member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church and had spent his entire life at Oxford.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 20, 1975 at 2:00 p.m. at the Oxford Baptist Church with Reverend Leroy Porterfield of Melbourne, Arkansas, officiating. Interment was in the Oxford Cemetery under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Salem.

Casketbearers were: Noble Rowden, Verl Taylor, Lee Morgan, Revel Simmons, Harry Hambley and G. W. Hammett.
