Obitaury for James David Lemons:

James David Lemons, 65, son of Elvin Preston Lemons and Freida Louise Baker Lemons, was born March 8, 1943, at Plato. He died June 2, 2008, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kan., after a long battle with emphysema and heart problems.

He graduated from Houston High School in 1961 and married LaVonna Sue Gilbert June 24, 1965, at Miami, Okla.

Mr. Lemons worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber for more than 33 years and attended business college.

He spent his retirement enjoying his yard between frequent hospital visits and supporting his granddaughter in Breathe: the Lexie Lemons project to educate youth about the dangers of smoking.

He was baptized in the Church of Christ but later attended the Lutheran church.

He was preceded in death by his father.
Surviving are his wife of Topeka, Kan.; two daughters, Leia Lemons-McGahee of Knoxville, Tenn., and Lora Lemons of Topeka, Kan.; his mother of Fulton; sister, Erma Delcore of Topeka, Kan.; two brothers, Gary of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Roger of Fulton; and a granddaughter.

Services were June 6 at the Oxford Cemetery at Oxford, Ark., with Bobby Coleman officiating under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem, Ark.
