Arvie J. Armstrong, "AJ," was born on Sept. 18, 1924, in Hackett and left us on May 22, 2009, at the age of 84. He grew up in Hackett, served in the military during World War II (1943-45) and was a 33rd degree Mason (50-year member in the Hackett Lodge). Mr. Armstrong met and married Mary Catherine Carter in Greenwood, Arkansas. He moved to Dallas in 1957. Mr. Armstrong was an integral part of and employed by Markham & Brown, Motive Industries, M.J. Mitchell Oil Production and before retirement he provided consulting services to Neoka Drilling. In his retirement, he enjoyed fixing things, gardening and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church in Dallas. Mr. Armstrong is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine of Dallas; three sons and their families, Don and Pam of Royse City, Texas, Glenn and Sheila of Rowlett, Texas, and John and Cindy of Rowlett, Texas; eight grandchildren, Melody Ann Thompson, Rebecca Lynn Armstrong, Austin J. Armstrong, Jenifer Ann Armstrong, Catherine Ann Armstrong, Jacob Allen Armstrong, Caitlyn Diane Armstrong and Carly Brianne Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by two children, Allen Jay and Linda Kay. Funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Old Union Cemetery in Hackett.
