BAKER, Alex W. – Alex W. Baker was born January 20, 1832 in Pittsburgh, Ohio. At the age of 21 years, with his parents, he removed to Hillsdale County, Mich. Where he was united in marriage to Mary M. Wood. To this union was born four children, Charles W., Emma A. and Cecil L. who with their mother and several grand children, still survive him. Herbert D. died in infancy. In February 1881 Mr. Baker with his family came to Springdale where he has since resided and where, on January 22, 1904, he died, surrounded by his many friends, at the age of 72 years. Funeral services were held at his home on Sunday, conducted by Rev. T.W. Shipley, pastor of the M.E. church, after which his remains were interred in the cemetery at Shady Grove. The Family.
